What are Top Life Insurance Companies for Your Needs

Choosing top life insurance companies can be a daunting task. There are a lot of life insurance companies, and while some are nationally known and Fortune 500 corporations such as MetLife and Pacific Life, they usually aren't that widely known and many have regional fame only.

Top life insurance companies compete on different selling points. Some try to stake their claim to be the best by offering lower premiums, while others admit their premiums for a similar policy are higher but they have other benefits such as better customer service, better financial stability, quicker payout times in case of a claim, a wider array of products, and so on.

You will want to take a look at all these things that life insurers compete on when making your decision on who are the top life insurance companies. But two things to consider first are: whether or not the company is a MetLife or someone like that; and whether or not you received any referrals to a company you're checking into. Generally speaking, larger top life insurance companies got that way for good reason and do have a lot of financial strength behind them; and, if someone you know and trust referred you to set up an appointment with an agent from a company they're now covered by they likely received good customer service and a policy that they are happy with.

The following are some of the top life insurance companies:

State Farm which is listed as number 32 on the Fortune 500 list of largest and top life insurance companies, was founded in 1922 by a retired farmer and insurance salesman named George Jacob "G.J." Allstate sells 13 major lines of insurance, including life insurance. The "You're in Good Hands with Allstate" ad is one of the most well known corporate branding statements in American history. Allstate was founded in 1931 as part of the Sears, Roebuck, & Co. group of companies, and became a publicly traded company in 1933. The name "Allstate" was taken from a tire that Sears sold in its automobile parts division, and in fact the company began as a mail-order automobile insurance company.

MetLife Insurance made famous by the Snoopy One (and now Snoopy Two) blimps that fly over sports stadiums, and the Peanuts Gang characters, after the late Charles M. Schultz received such good care from MetLife during an illness that he signed over the advertising trademark and copy rights of his characters to the company, was founded as the National Union Life and Limb Insurance Company in New York City in 1863. Today the company makes over $1 billion a year in profits and is one of the United States' largest financial institutions. The company's famous tagline is "Get Met. It Pays."
